Feb. 26 (UPI) -- The Outsiders, Crash and There's Something About Mary icon Matt Dillon is set to star in and executive produce a new MGM+ series based on the classic western, The Magnificent Seven.
Production is slated to begin this year in Calgary.
Set in the 1880s American frontier, the drama was written and is being executive produced by Tim Kring whose credits include Heroes, Touch, Dig and Crossing Jordan.
Dillon will play the role of Chris Adams, which Yul Brynner originated in the 1960 film, which was a remake of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.
Adams is the leader of seven gunslingers who try to protect a group of innocent villagers from the ruthless land baron stealing their property.
