Disruptive elegance

During the last New York Fashion Week on February 15, Rama Duwaji sat front row at a fashion show featuring Diotima, the label of Jamaican queer designer Rachel Scott. This was likely no coincidence, as the young woman, who at 28 became the youngest first lady of New York, is known for blending fashion and activism. On January 1, at Zohran Mamdani's swearing-in ceremony, she appeared in a coat by Renaissance Renaissance, a Beirut-based fashion house founded by Palestinian-Lebanese designer Cynthia Merhej, who is especially known for her stances against racism and sexism.
