The Legal Coordination Committee for Government Doctors has urged the State government to conduct promotion counselling for dental doctors, fill the posts of assistant professors in dentistry through Medical Services Recruitment Board and restore the reduced dental posts.

In a statement issued, the association said no promotion counselling has been conducted for dental doctors since 2014. Only five departments at the Tamil Nadu Government Dental College, Chennai had promotion counselling up to 2023. Currently, 30 associate professor posts and 20 professor posts remain vacant. In medical colleges, 30 assistant professor posts in dentistry are vacant, and in Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services hospitals, 27 dental surgeon posts are vacant. For more than 10 years, no new appointments have been made for dental doctors.

For the Dental Council of India inspection at Chidambaram and Pudukkottai dental Colleges, doctors from hospitals in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Rameswaram, Krishnagiri and Vellore were transferred, the association said. It also demanded cancellation of an order extending the service of a retired dental professor and to create dental posts in all government hospitals and primary health centres.
