President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed the U.S. women’s hockey team he belittled is coming to the White House after rejecting the first invitation.
He mentioned the development as he praised the Olympic gold medal-winning U.S. men’s team in attendance at his State of the Union address.
“They beat a fantastic Canadian team in overtime as everybody saw, as did the American women, who will soon be coming to the White House,” Trump said.
A White House official told HuffPost on Wednesday regarding the president’s announcement: “We look forward to hosting them at the White House after their tremendous victory and celebration.”
HuffPost has also reached out to USA Hockey for confirmation.
