The accused in custody of Jagadgirigutta police with the recovered gold jewellery in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
A 36-year-old man was arrested by the Jagadgirigutta police on Wednesday for stealing 14 tolas of gold ornaments from a house in Yellammabanda. The accused, identified as Patro Shankar of Dattatreya Colony, was taken into custody based on technical evidence and a tip-off. The police seized a gold necklace, a black bead chain, a three-layer chain, a chain with a locket and four gold rings from him.The case came into light following a complaint by Rekapalli Lakshmi, 63, who had locked her house at around 4.30 p.m. on February 23 and hid the key under a drum placed beside the door before stepping out. The accused, who noticed where the key was kept, entered the house using it shortly after she left.He opened a locker and decamped with approximately 14 tolas of gold ornaments. When Lakshmi and her family returned home around 6 p.m., they found the cupboard open and the jewellery missing, following which a complaint was lodged.Police have advised residents not to hide house keys under doormats, shoe racks, window sills or behind objects near the entrance, as such practices make houses vulnerable to theft.
