The "People’s State of the Union" is set to take place across the National Mall from the first formal State of the Union address given by President Donald Trump in his second term.
The event, hosted by MeidasTouch, MoveOn Civic Action and other community organizing groups, begins at 8 p.m. ET and seeks to counter the main presidential speech of the year.
It starts one hour before Trump is scheduled to begin speaking and will feature at least 30 representatives and senators who will skip the president's speech. The program includes Jeffrey Epstein abuse survivors, families impacted by immigration enforcement, fired public health workers and Americans struggling with rising costs.
The event is one of two that are seeking to steal some of the spotlight from Capitol Hill. The "State of the Swamp," headlined by actor Robert De Niro, is set to take place at the same time as the address.
