The facial injuries sustained by Monte di Paschi di Siena (MPS) Communications Chief David Rossi were not caused by his fall from his office window in the Tuscan city on March 6 2013 but instead by pressure on his face and head exerted by third parties against the safety bar or the wooden frame of the window, coroners said Tuesday.

An investigation into the incident, initially ruled a suicide, was recently re-opened by the Italian parliament.

The coroners' re-examination of the wounds was requested by a parliamentary commission of inquiry into Rossi's death at the age of 51.

MPS, the world's oldest continuously operating bank, was in the midst of a period of financial turmoil at the time, resolved by its recent takeover by the Italian Sate which preceded its more recent takeover of Italy's premier merchant bank Mediobanca.

Founded in 1472, it is Italy's third biggest bank behind Intesa Sanpaolo and UniCredit.
