Feb. 23 (UPI) -- A former techno DJ who sold aircraft engine parts to airlines and suppliers around the world was sentenced Monday to prison for fraud in the United Kingdom.
Jose Alejandro Zamora Yrala, 38, will serve 4 years and 8 months in jail after participating in a $52 million fraud scheme that involved forging documents to guarantee airworthiness, the British Serious Fraud Office said in a press release.
Officials said that Yrala created fake documents, invented fake employees, fabricated sales and quality managers and imitated a legitimate business.
"Zamora's operation risked public safety on a global scale in a way that defies belief," SFO Director of Operations Emma Luxton said in the release.
Yrala created the company AOG Technics, selling more than 60,000 engine parts that were accompanied by forged Authorized Release Certificates, most of which were for use in the CFM56 engine, which is the most widely used commercial aircraft engine used globally - including in Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
