LOS ANGELES, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, in theaters Friday, includes footage of women in the front row of Presley's Las Vegas residency planting kisses on the singer. More than 50 years later, two of those fans showed up at screenings with director Baz Luhrmann.
In a recent Zoom interview with UPI, Luhrmann, 63, said women at U.K. and Toronto International Film Festival screenings identified themselves.
"When I was in TIFF, a woman reached out and said, 'I was one of the girls and he kissed me and he was right there. His face was right there,'" Luhrmann said. "She was crying."
The U.K. woman also cried when she shared her memories of the Presley concert. Luhrmann added that Presley did not repeat the spontaneous crowd work.
"He literally gives himself physically to the audience," Luhrmann said. "Of course, those that get a kiss never forget it."
