CNN chief White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins warned of a “slippery slope” after the Federal Communications Commission’s newest threats against late night talk shows.

“I think it’s something that the president — we didn’t see him do as much in his first term, it’s a way he’s wielding his power so differently in the second term,” Collins told Stephen Colbert of the threats on Tuesday night’s airing of “The Late Show.”

Earlier this week, Colbert accused his network, CBS, of censorship after claiming he could not air an interview with Texas state Rep. James Talarico (D), following last month’s threats by FCC Chair Brendan Carr to enforce equal time regulations for TV talk shows.

CBS, however, said in a statement that Colbert’s show “was provided legal guidance that the broadcast could trigger the FCC equal-time rule for two other candidates, including Rep. Jasmine Crockett, and presented options for how the equal time for other candidates could be fulfilled.”

Colbert’s interview with Talarico, who is running for U.S. Senate, can be viewed on YouTube.
