Feb. 18 (UPI) -- UCLA basketball coach Mick Cronin sent one of his own players to the locker room, ejecting Steven Jamerson II during a loss to Michigan State.
The sequence occurred with about 4:26 remaining in the 82-59 setback Tuesday in East Lansing, Mich. The redshirt senior totaled two points, five rebounds and two assists over eight minutes of action.
Jamerson ran behind Cooper Carson during a breakaway and hit the Spartans center from behind as he went up for a dunk in the final minutes. The flagrant foul triggered the ejection from Cronin. The Spartans trailed by 27 points at the time of the foul.
"You know, true toughness is how you compete and how you go to work every day," Cronin told reporters. "Steve's a good kid. He made a bad decision. But if you want to be a tough guy, you need to do it during the game, for a blockout, for a rebound.
