Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Attorneys representing CBS said The Late Show could not air an interview with Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico. Host Stephen Colbert said the decision was related to the Federal Communications Commission.

Colbert announced the attorneys' decision on Monday night and said the network prohibited him from mentioning the interview.

"Because my network clearly doesn't want me to talk about this, let's talk about this," Colbert said, as reported by USA Today.

He said FCC Chairman Brendan Carr was hypocritical for saying he wants to end the FCC's equal time exemption for television shows that air after prime time.

"[President] Donald Trump's administration wants to silence anyone who says anything bad about Trump on TV because all Trump does is watch TV," Colbert told his television audience.
