Trump Blames DEI For Maryland Sewage Spill Into Potomac RiverPresident Donald Trump announced Monday via his social media platform that he is ordering the Federal Emergency Management Agency to assist state and local authorities working to clean up a sewage disaster in Maryland. The aging sewage pipe in Maryland burst open in mid-January, prompting a spill that has been called “one of the largest” in U.S. history. While local authorities say E. coli and other bacteria levels are not alarmingly high, researchers have warned people against coming into contact with the Potomac and raised other public health concerns. One water quality specialist told local news station WJLA that she saw "remnants of sewage," such as toilet paper, in the area downstream of the break. As he has done with other accidents and natural disasters in the past, Trump suggested with no evidence that women and people of color might be to blame, claiming that diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts often championed by Democrats have led to incompetent leadership of public infrastructure systems.“While State and Local Authorities have failed to request needed Emergency Help, I cannot allow incompetent Local ‘Leadership’ to turn the River in the Heart of Washington into a Disaster Zone,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.“As we saw in the Palisades, the Democrat War on Merit has real consequences,” he added, referring to last year’s California wildfires. Trump made a show of “turning on the water” to fight the flames, even though reservoirs were full at the time.See All UpdatesClose
