Trump Administration Investigating Whether Agents Lied About Minneapolis ShootingThe acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Todd Lyons, suggested Friday that two of his agents may have lied about an attack in Minneapolis that prompted one of them to shoot Venezuelan immigrant Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis on Jan. 14.Sosa-Celis and another man, Alfredo Alejandro Aljorna, were charged with felony assault. At the time, the Department of Homeland Security said the agents were “violently assaulted” by “three criminal illegal aliens” wielding “a shovel and broom handle.” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said the supposed attack on the agents constituted “attempted murder.”But on Friday, Lyons said in a statement that “a joint review by ICE and the Department of Justice (DOJ) of video evidence has revealed that sworn testimony provided by two separate officers appears to have made untruthful statements.”Both officers were immediately placed on administrative leave while the U.S. Attorney’s Office investigates, he noted, without giving their names. Lyons’ statement comes one day after prosecutors asked a judge in the case to drop the charges, saying that “newly discovered evidence” was “inconsistent with the allegations.”See All UpdatesClose
