Feb. 11 (UPI) -- American Lindsey Vonn underwent a third surgery on the left leg she broke at the 2026 Winter Olympics, she announced Wednesday on social media.
Vonn, who sustained a complex tibia fracture during the women's downhill Sunday in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, said the injury would require multiple surgeries.
The three-time Olympic medalist, who had been aiming to become the oldest (41) Alpine Olympic medalist at Milan-Cortina, has not said if she plans to return to the sport.
"I had my third surgery today and it was successful," Vonn wrote on social media. "Success today has a completely different meaning than it did a few days ago. I'm making progress, and while it is slow, I know I'll be OK. Thankful for all of the incredible medical staff, friends, family who have been by my side and the beautiful outpouring of love and support from people around the world.
"Also, huge congrats to my teammates and all of the Team USA athletes who are out there inspiring me and giving me something to cheer for."
