Sturla Holm Laegreid won a Winter Olympics medal but seems to have lost the girl for good.
After oddly confessing in post-race interviews that he cheated on his girlfriend and was having the worst week of his life, his now-former flame spoke out.
“It is hard to forgive, even after such a public declaration of love in front of the whole world,” the unidentified woman told Norwegian outlet VG Wednesday in an English translation. “I did not choose to be put in this position, and it hurts to have to be in it. We have had contact, and he is aware of my opinions on this.”
She also thanked “my family and friends who have embraced me and supported me during this time. Also to everyone else who has thought of me and sympathized, without knowing who I am.”
In an interview after taking bronze in the 20km men’s biathlon on Tuesday, Laegreid declared, “Half a year ago, I met the love of my life. The world’s most beautiful and nicest person. Three months ago, I made the mistake of my life and cheated on her, and I told her about that a week ago. This has been the worst week of my life.”
