Speaking to reporters Tuesday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt demurred from a question about an eyebrow-raising conversation that President Donald Trump allegedly had back in 2006 regarding Jeffrey Epstein that casts doubt on his version of their relationship.

According to a document contained in the recently released trove of Epstein files, Trump was among the first to call a local Palm Beach, Florida, police tip line after word got around that Epstein was under investigation for sexual abuse two decades ago. Trump supposedly told the local police “thank goodness you’re stopping him” and “everyone has known he’s been doing this,” although the document does not state what “this” is.
