Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Focus Features released a trailer for Girls Like Girls, a new film from writer-director Hayley Kiyoko based on her novel and song of the same name.
The trailer features Maya da Costa as Coley, a 17-year-old new girl in town who develops feelings for Sonya (Myra Molloy), a new friend whose affections turn flirtatious, despite Sonya having a boyfriend.
Kiyoko directs from a screenplay she co-wrote with Stefanie Scott. The film is based on Kiyoko's song, "Girls Like Girls," and the novel she authored of the same name.
Kiyoko also provides original music for the soundtrack.
"Girls Like Girls is a heartfelt coming-of-age story set over the course of one sun-drenched summer, where new-girl-in-town Coley falls in love for the first time while learning to accept herself along the way," the official synopsis reads.
