While the Northeast enjoys some reprieve from the winter weather that has battered the region, forecasters say, the West may get a taste of frigid temperatures.
AccuWeather senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said that air from the Pacific Ocean will make its way across the country in the next two weeks.
"While this will bring a much-needed break from frigid conditions and it may feel warmer than it actually is, it can create problems due to thaw-and-freeze cycles, foggy episodes and storms that bring areas of freezing rain, sleet and wet snow," Sosnowski added.
As the warm air moves east, it will leave in its wake a cold snap for the western part of the country.
AccuWeather meteorologist Kai Kerkow said the high-pressure system parked over California that has kept winter weather at bay appears likely to weaken.
