Count the president among those disappointed in Bill Belichick's Hall of Fame snub.
The former New England Patriots head coach Belichick didn't receive the minimum 40 votes of 50 needed for Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement in 2026, his first year of eligibility for the Hall. Belichick missing out on the class was stunning to many, and that includes president Donald Trump.
Speaking in a pre-recorded interview with Tom Llamas of "NBC Nightly News" ahead of Super Bowl 60, Trump weighed in on the Belichick snub, and his opinion was in line with what many viewed.
"I thought it was terrible," Trump said. "I mean, he’s won so much, won so many Super Bowls. Great coach. Became a little bit controversial, I guess, after that, this little period after that. During it, he was just a great coach. I thought it was very inappropriate."
It's unclear what controversy that the president may be referring to in Belichick's post-Patriots career. After his departure from the Patriots, Belichick considered a few jobs, including with the Atlanta Falcons. Belichick was passed over and eventually landed the head coaching job at North Carolina.
