This institution could not have a better owner."On Wednesday, hundreds of journalists representing one-third of the staff at The Post were laid off. “I just don’t know how The Washington Post is going to be The Washington Post after this,” one laid off reporter told HuffPost. “It feels like the end of it. I mourn for our readers, too, just as much as I do for us reporters.”In his goodbye email, Lewis referred to "difficult decisions" he had to make during his tenure. "During my tenure, difficult decisions have been taken in order to ensure the sustainable future of The Post so it can for many years ahead publish high-quality nonpartisan news to millions of customers each day," he said.Jeff D'Onofrio, who joined The Post in 2025, was named acting publisher and CEO.
