Around 1,000 students took part in a demonstration in Milan on Friday to protest against the presence of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Italy during the 2026 Winter Olympics.
'Milano Vi Schifa' - 'You Disgust Milan' read the banner at the front of the march from Piazza Leonardo da Vinci to Trotter Park and people chanted "Ice Out" as they walked.
"We find it incomprehensible and unjustifiable that the presence in another sovereign country of a foreign police force guilty of racism and murder can be considered just," said Pietro Wilhelm Malmsheimer of the Lombardy branch of the UdS student group.
Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi has said there are no grounds to be concerned as the ICE officials will not have an operational role here.
"ICE does not, and will never be able to, carry out police operational activities on our national territory," the minister told the Lower House on Wednesday.
