Feb. 5 (UPI) -- The Trump administration finalized a rule that allows it to fire about 50,000 federal workers more easily.
The new rule takes away some civil service protections and changes the whistleblower policy to give it less teeth.
Called the Schedule Policy Career or P/C, formerly known as Schedule F, it changes the status of policy workers in the federal government to make their job protections similar to that of political appointees, who can be fired any time for any reason. There are about 50,000 workers who will see their job status change.
"This is not about people's views or ideas. This is about whether they are refusing to actually affect their duties on behalf of the American people consistent with the objectives of this administration," said Scott Kupor, director of the Office of Personnel Management.
