Feb. 5 (UPI) -- U.S. President Donald Trump and Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele together touted a reduction in crime at Thursday's National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., though the American leader also used the opportunity to take digs at those he disagrees with.
Trump boasted about his efforts to reduce crime by deploying the National Guard in the nation's capital. He said federal officers removed "monsters" from the streets, mostly targeting immigrants.
"People don't want to be mugged!" Trump said. They don't want to have a murderer living next door that was, you know, killed three people in a certain country and is now living beautifully here. Because, generally speaking, if they've killed in another country, they're not gonna be the best of citizens."
The Washington Post reported in December that 80% of the immigrants arrested amid an immigration crackdown in Washington, D.C., had no criminal records.
