The State Police Chief (SPC) has directed the District police Chief (Kasaragod) to order an investigation led by an officer not below the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police into the allegation that false details were included in the first information report (FIR) registered in connection with the arrest of a youth at the Kumbala toll plaza.
The directive follows a complaint submitted to the Chief Minister by activist Kulathur Jaisingh, alleging misuse of public authority and fabrication of facts in the FIR. The complaint claimed that the youth was forcibly taken into custody from his car by a police team at the toll plaza.
According to the complaint, CCTV visuals from the toll booth indicated that the youth, who was seated in the car, was merely questioning toll- related norms when the police allegedly picked an unnecessary argument.
It is alleged that after deliberately creating a confrontation, the police forcibly dragged the youth out of the car, pulled him along the road, bundled him into a vehicle and took him to the police station to register a case.
The complaint further said that the police ignored the presence of a woman and an infant in the car while taking the youth into custody. It is alleged that the FIR falsely stated that the youth attempted to flee and was arrested thereafter.
