Kendrick Lamar is now the most awarded rapper in Grammys history.
On Sunday, the “GNX” rap star was the most-nominated artist at this year’s ceremony.
Ahead of the main ceremony, Lamar collected Grammys for Best Rap Song (“TV Off” feat. Lefty Gunplay), Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Luther” feat. SZA) and Best Rap Performance (Clipse’s “Chains & Whips”). At the top of the main ceremony, he won Best Rap Album. He is also nominated in five other categories.
Lamar now surpasses Jay-Z’s Grammys record to become the most decorated rapper ever. The latter set a new record last year after breaking his tie with Kanye West, notching his 25th win as a credited songwriter on Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter,” which took home Album of the Year.
Lamar was up for nine Grammys this year, including three of the Big Four categories — Album, Record, and Song of the Year — bringing his total career nominations to 66.
