Political opponents who hoped to destroy the unity in the DMK-led alliance have ended up in failure, DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said on Sunday. He asserted that no force could divide the fraternity among the allies.

“This is not an electoral alliance based on numbers, but one formed on shared beliefs. This is an alliance formed with the objective to hold high India and Tamil Nadu,” Mr. Stalin said, while addressing the valedictory of the Communist Party of India’s (CPI) centenary celebrations in Chennai.

“The camaraderie between us goes beyond electoral politics. We stand together as democratic forces against casteism, classism, majoritarianism. It is this camaraderie that will defeat fascism, autocracy, communalism, and dictatorship,” he said.

Tearing into the BJP, Mr. Stalin said its “tentacles” were destroying everything. “The BJP-led Union government has been destroying the ideals that were protected by the country. They are destroying the ideals in the Constitution so that they would suit their interest. They are attempting to weaken the ideal of ‘Unity in Diversity’ and shift the country towards a unitary model.”
