Avraham Rosenthal cooks modern Ashkenazi food and offers a window into Haredi home cooking and daily life – and it's not what you'd expect

The Friday night meal at Avraham Rosenthal's parents' house always includes chicken soup. "Not a Friday goes by without chicken soup with kneidlach, kreplach or noodles," says Rosenthal, who grew up in a Haredi home but is now secular. "No matter what happens or what the temperature is outside, even when it's 40 degrees Celsius [104 Fahrenheit]."
