Eugene Levy is mourning the loss of his TV wife and real-life friend of over 50 years.

The 79-year-old actor paid his respects to his decades-long friendship with Catherine O'Hara, who died on Jan. 30 following "a brief illness," Variety and Deadline both report, citing the CAA agency. No cause of death for the "Home Alone" star has been revealed.

"Words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today," Levy said in a statement shared with USA TODAY Jan. 31. "I had the honor of knowing and working with the great Catherine O'Hara for over fifty years."

Levy, who created "Schitt's Creek" alongside his son Dan Levy, played opposite O'Hara in the six seasons of the acclaimed comedy series that aired from 2015 to 2020 on CBC Television in Canada. The pair played former video rental empire CEO Johnny Rose and former actress Moira Rose.

Throughout its run, the show earned nine Emmy Awards, including best comedy series in 2020. O'Hara also won the lead actress in a comedy series trophy that same year, when the series swept the Emmys, with co-stars Annie Murphy, Dan and Eugene Levy also winning individual acting trophies.
