In association with National Health Mission (NHM), Tamil Nadu, and the Idhayangal Charitable Trust, a Coimbatore-based NGO, the Government Taluk Hospital in Tirupattur town has launched an initiative to provide Type-1 diabetes kits to children free of cost.

Health officials said that Collector K. Sivasoundaravalli launched the initiative at the hospital. A total of 82 children were identified in the district. They would be provided free treatment including best insulins in pen-fill cartridges, pain free 4 mm needles, glucometers, 100 glucose strips per month per child, insulin pump therapy, a state-of-art gadget.

Health officials said the free kit will help to reduce total support costs of each beneficiary around Rs 6,000 every month. The facilities available for identified beneficiaries includes advanced AI-enabled retinal camera for avoidable blindness in Type 1 diabetes, point-of-care equipments to test kidneys, HbA1c, Hemoglobin and thyroid in a single drop of blood, best insulins in pen-fill cartridges, needles, glucose sensors, glucometers, glucose strips, insulin pumps, and Diabetes Educator to follow up all children closely. Round the clock helpline is also available for the beneficiaries.
