Immigration and Customs Enforcement has ended its enhanced enforcement operations in Maine, Sen. Susan Collins announced on Jan. 29.

A little over a week after the Department of Homeland Security launched “Operation Catch of the Day," expanding its deportation campaign over the objections of local officials, Collins said Secretary Kristi Noem informed her "ICE has ended its enhanced activities in the State of Maine."

"There are currently no ongoing or planned large-scale ICE operations here," Collins said in a post on social media early the morning of Jan. 29.

USA TODAY has reached out to DHS and ICE for comment.

Collins said she had been "urging" Noem and others in the Trump administration to get ICE to "reconsider its approach" in Maine. ICE and Customs and Border Patrol will resume normal operations that already existed in the state for years, she said.
