Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Jannik Sinner ousted Ben Shelton, while Jessica Pegula bounced fellow American Amanda Anisimova in Day 11 quarterfinals at the 2026 Australian Open.

Sinner, the two-time defending champion, swept Shelton 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday in Melbourne. The top-ranked Italian held a 3-0 edge in break point conversions and committed just 16 unforced errors, compared to the No. 7 American's 34, in the 2-hour, 23-minute match.

"It's a very tough match every time we play against each other, so I'm very happy how I handled the situation," Sinner told reporters. "I had to win in straight sets, but Ben is an incredible player."

Sinner will take on No. 4 Novak Djokovic of Serbia in one of two men's singles semifinals. The winner will meet No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz of Spain or No. 3 Alexander Zverev of Germany in the finale at Melbourne Park.

"It's gonna be a very tough match," Sinner said of meeting Djokovic. "We know each other quite well, so it's going to be interesting to see how we handle the situation."
