The vibrant Indian-Israeli community came alive at two Eilat festivals, with some members longing not just for the culture of their past, but for a return to the old homeland
On Thursday night two weeks ago, in Eilat, I saw people from India allowing themselves to be Indians. At the entrance to the Eilat Theaters venue, near the Central Bus Station in the southern seaside city, members of the crowd didn't seem to feel at ease yet. Their body language was a bit restrained, and one woman wore a pink sweatshirt to cover her kurta – the traditional, loose-fitting tunic.
