“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert on Monday began by thanking his audience for coming to the show despite a winter storm that brought freezing temperatures, snow and ice to New York and a large swath of the nation.
“I think we can all agree,” Colbert said, then offered up two words that were about more than just winter weather: “Fuck ICE.”
The audience erupted with cheers.
Colbert devoted his monologue to 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti, who was shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis on Saturday after trying to film them on the streets amid weeks of protests.
Administration officials working for President Donald Trump, including Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, accused Pretti of being a “domestic terrorist” without evidence.
