A devastating winter storm engulfed a large swath of the continental United States from New Mexico to Maine over the weekend, cutting power to more than 1 million customers across the country by its peak on Jan. 25.
At least 34 people have died in the storm. Snow, ice and wind have caused severe power outages, travel disruptions and structural damage.
Cold weather is forecast to linger across the eastern United States into early February, according to the Weather Prediction Center. Meteorologists warned that widespread, unusually cold temperatures will affect more than 190 million Americans.
