Island businesses are being warned to be wary of emails from scammers posing as employees of the financial regulator.

The Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) is urging companies to ignore fraudulent emails from "thomas.niederberger@jerseyfsc.org.cliopost.com", the impersonating address.

It said scam messages told recipients they were being contacted "regarding a matter identified in an internal review" concerning "their profile and activity".

A spokesperson for the JFSC said: "If you receive an email like this, do not respond or click on any links or attachments."

The JFSC added that the emails falsely claim businesses "needs to click on a link to access documents contained in an eFAX, facilitated by "CLIOPOST eFAX Delivery"".
