The national capital remained under tight security with Delhi Police deploying over 30,000 personnel and monitoring every movement with AI-enabled cameras, smart glasses and multi-layered security, as the country celebrated its 77th Republic Day on Monday (January 26, 2026).
Speaking to The Hindu, Additional Commissioner of Police Devesh Kumar Mahla said that at least 10,000 police personnel were stationed in the New Delhi district alone, which included the ceremonial parade route and several high security zones.

The Additional CP added that police personnel on the moving vehicles and near enclosures were given smart glasses to scan attendees. “Personnel wearing smart glasses were stationed near metro stations around the venue, Rafi Marg, and several enclosures like the Ganga, Gharara and Beas had officials scanning attendees,” he added. He said that all personnel were briefed on deployment plans, point-wise responsibilities and contingency measures, adding that rehearsals were also conducted to ensure smooth functioning.
