Jan. 26 (UPI) -- A private jet that crashed in Bangor, Maine, Sunday killed seven people and left one crew member seriously injured, said a preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane crashed during takeoff at around 7:45 p.m. EST Sunday. The FAA report says the jet "crashed under unknown circumstances on departure, came to rest inverted, and caught fire."

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating, and the airport is expected to stay closed until at least noon Wednesday, a Facebook post from Bangor International Airport said.

The Bombardier Challenger 650 business jet is registered to a company based in Houston, CNN reported.

During the crash, there was a winter storm throughout the northeast bringing snow and low visibility, though it's not yet clear what caused the crash.
