President Donald Trump and several of his top aides defended his health in a lengthy piece published by New York Magazine on Monday, with several offering unusual takes on the leader's closed eyes during Cabinet meetings.

When Trump appears to be snoozing during these meetings, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, what we're actually seeing is "a listening mechanism." White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump's closed eyes mean he's "actively listening." White House staff secretary Will Scharf said Trump "adopts a pose" when he's listening deeply.

But Trump offered a more blunt assessment for why he appears to be dozing off.
