PARK CITY, UTAH Jan. 26 (UPI) -- The Gallerist, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, is a macabre thriller that works both as satire and getting-away-with-murder caper. Three generations of Hollywood royalty conspire to bring the deed to life.
Polina (Natalie Portman) is opening an exhibition for Stella Burgess (Da'Vine Joy Randolph) at her struggling gallery. When influencer Dalton (Zach Galifianakis) slips on a well foreshadowed spill, he impales himself on an exhibit.
With other art fans already mistaking Dalton's body for part of the artwork, Polina tries to pass it off as modern art. This satirizes the gullibility of the art world, but sets real stakes for Polina to get away with the accidental death.
First, Polina's assistant Kiki (Jenna Ortega) knows about the body because she saw the piece before Dalton was attached and warned Polina to put cones around the spill. Then, Polina has to get the artist on board.
Stella initially thinks Polina modified her work with a mannequin and is incensed. Once she disovers the truth, she is more concerned about her name on a bad sculpture than the loss of life.
