AP Transco Joint Managing Director G. Surya Sai Praveenchand on Monday said that the power utility has set an ambitious target of completing about 55 major transmission projects worth nearly ₹9,320 crore during the current year. These projects are expected to add 8,853 MVA of transformer capacity and 1,558 circuit kilometres of transmission lines to the State grid.
Participating in the Republic Day celebrations along with AP Genco in-charge Managing Director P. Pulla Reddy at the Vidyut Soudha here, Mr. Praveenchand said that new 400, 220 and 132 kV substations were being developed at strategic locations to ensure round-the-clock, reliable and quality power supply.
He said AP Transco is currently operating 380 substations and 1,030 power transformers with a total capacity of 71,049 MVA, besides more than 33,000 circuit kilometres of high-voltage transmission lines. In recent years, the utility has commissioned and augmented 3,240 MVA of extra-high-voltage substation capacity and laid nearly 950 circuit kilometres of new transmission lines, leading to significant improvement in system reliability and voltage profile across the State.
Mr. Praveenchand said that transmission losses had been reduced to a historic low of 2.60% through extensive digitisation, real-time monitoring and network optimisation. He added that the Transco was implementing Battery Energy Storage System projects with a capacity of 1,500 MW or 3,000 MWh in two phases to support grid stability, renewable energy integration and peak demand management.
