U.S. Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost, D-Florida, was allegedly assaulted and "punched" in the face by a man at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah on Friday, Jan. 23 who told him he would be deported, the lawmaker and local police said.
Frost wrote on social media that he was assaulted by a man who told him "Trump was going to deport (him) before he punched (Frost) in the face." According to the post, the alleged attacker was also "heard screaming racist remarks as he drunkenly ran off."
"The individual was arrested and I am okay," Frost wrote.
Danielle Snelson, a community outreach lieutenant with the Park City Police Department, told USA TODAY in an email that officers responded to a report of an assault just after midnight on Saturday, Jan. 24 at High West Saloon, a bar and restaurant that is part of a larger distillery.
The officers conducted an investigation and the alleged assailant was identified as Christian Young, with Snelson writing that Young "unlawfully entered a private party after previously being turned away for not having an invitation." Once inside, "Young assaulted Florida Congressman Maxwell Frost and a female who was attending the private event," she wrote.
