Three days after his house was allegedly set on fire by Trinamool Congress supporters, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari, on Saturday (January 24, 2026), visited the residence of Tapas Barik, a party worker, at Onda in West Bengal’s Bankura’s district and assured full support to reconstruct the house.

The thatched house of the BJP worker at Nandanpur village under the Nakajuri gram panchayat area was set on fire on Wednesday (January 21) night, allegedly by Trinamool supporters. The miscreants not only set the house on fire but also bolted the gates of the house from the outside. After Mr. Barik and his elderly parents raised an alarm from inside the house, the villagers rescued them from the house, which was on fire. A pharmacy of the BJP worker was also vandalised and set on fire by miscreants.

When the Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly and other BJP leaders from the district reached the residence of Mr. Barik, all the family workers burst into tears. “ Why are you crying? We will help you repair the house. The whole team (BJP) is with you,” Mr. Adhikari told Mr. Barik.

The BJP leader said that the party will take full responsibility for the family of the BJP worker and provide support to build the house. Mr. Adhikari threatened legal action if the perpetrators of the crime were not apprehended by January 26. He also assured Tapas Barik of protection and said he should not leave the area.
