The Bengaluru police have arrested three persons, including a rowdy-sheeter who runs a paying guest (PG) facility near a private educational institution in northeast Bengaluru’s Devanahalli, in connection with a street fight that was triggered by a ragging incident.

The accused have been identified as Naveen (30), a rowdy-sheeter, and his two accomplices. The police have summoned the other accused and are yet to question them.

According to a complaint filed by the admission head of the private educational institution, first-year BBA and BSc students were ragged by at least 21 seniors. The seniors allegedly made the juniors carry their bags and bring them cigarettes, which was brought to the notice of the admission head. Subsequently, the college official warned two students identified as Shamil and Bilal.

However, the same students allegedly assaulted their juniors again and forced them to buy drinks and cigarettes on January 15. After learning about the incident, the college official went to speak to the seniors, who were sitting at a tea stall near the college, where a fight broke out.

Police said that Naveen, the PG owner, along with other students (seniors), again assaulted the juniors and also attacked the college official. A senior police officer told The Hindu that Naveen, a local resident, has been running a PG facility near the educational institution for the past few years. A rival PG facility in the same area is operated by a person from Kerala.
