The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has squarely blamed the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government for the death of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) superintendent engineer Govinda Rao, and have demanded a judicial inquiry into his death.

Speaking to the media on Friday, YSRCP Employees and Pensioners Division, president Nalamaru Chandrasekhar alleged that Mr. Govinda Rao collapsed and died during a review meeting, where TDP leader and Swachh Andhra Corporation Chairman Kommareddy Pattabhiram humiliated him. Mr. Chandrasekhar claimed that there was no need for Mr. Pattabhiram to hold a review meeting. He added that the Chairman behaved rudely even while Mr. Govinda Rao was explaining the issues raised. He likened the behaviour to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s arrogance during the Janmabhoomi meetings, and said that his party people are following the same path.

He demanded that Mr. Pattabhiram be sacked immediately for causing the death of Mr. Govinda Rao.

He further citied recent suicide cases of a a tahsildar and a gram panchayat member who took their lives unable to bear the harassment of the TDP party members and stands as a testimony to the highhandedness of the TDP-led government. Mr. Chandrasekhar further alleged that there is severe political interference in the transfer and postings of employees, and cautioned that there is a move to hand over the garbage removal contract to those close to the ruling party and its favoured few.
