A special integrated pharmacy counter has been set up at Government Medical College Hospital Thiruvananthapuram, to cater to the medicine requirement of the beneficiaries of various health insurance schemes.
A statement issued by Health Minister Veena George said that during her visit to the Medical College recently, one of the main complaints raised by the families of patients, who were the beneficiaries of various health insurance schemes, was about the difficulties they faced in getting medicines.
Medicines prescribed by the doctors had to be bought from various pharmacies. If one medicine was not available in a pharmacy, they had to get the non availability of the medicine sealed so that they could buy it from another pharmacy.
It was to resolve this difficulty faced by patients that a decision was taken to open a pharmacy counter near the counter of the health insurance scheme, from where all the empanelled pharmacies will provide medicines free of cost to the insurance scheme beneficiaries.
