Most parts of Kashmir received fresh snowfall, including the season’s first in Srinagar city, leading to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway and cancellation of all flights in Srinagar, officials said on Friday (January 23, 2026).

“The air traffic to and from Kashmir was suspended on the day after flight operations were cancelled at the Srinagar airport due to bad weather,” officials said.

“In view of continuous snowfall, accumulation of snow on operational areas, and the prevailing forecast of adverse weather en route, all flight operations at Srinagar airport stand cancelled for the day in the interest of passenger safety,” officials at the airport said.

They added, “The passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for updates and re-accommodation.”

While the plains of Kashmir recorded light to moderate snowfall, the upper areas and higher reaches of the valley received moderate to heavy snowfall, the officials said.
