A 29-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Churachandpur district in Manipur on Wednesday (January 22, 2026) night, security officials said. The killing was recorded on camera.
Mayanglambam Rishikant Singh, a resident of Kakching, belonged to the Meitei community. He was visiting his Kuki-Zo wife in Churachandpur district.
Fresh tension gripped the State after the killing as sit-in protests were organised in parts of the Meitei-dominated Imphal Valley, while people in Kakching district blocked the Indo-Myanmar Sugnu Road to demand justice for the family of the deceased.
