The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the party’s MPs to raise issues of public importance concerning Andhra Pradesh in both Houses of Parliament and ensure that the concerns of the people are effectively voiced at the national level.
Chairing the YSRCP Parliamentary Party meeting at the party’s central office in Tadepalli on Thursday, Mr. Jagan asked MPs to use Parliament as a strong platform to highlight the problems faced by farmers, youth, women, workers and weaker sections. He urged them to draw attention to what he described as the dilution of welfare schemes, the deteriorating law and order situation, and the growing debt burden of the State.
Criticising what he termed “Red Book governance” of the TDP-led government, Mr. Jagan alleged that Andhra Pradesh is witnessing rising political vendetta and targeted attacks against YSRCP leaders and supporters. Referring to the recent attack and murder of YSRCP Dalit supporter Manda Salman, he said such incidents reflect increasing violence and injustice against Dalits in the State.
Expressing serious concern over atrocities against Dalits, the YSRCP chief instructed the MPs to meet the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and submit detailed representations on incidents of '’attacks and harassment'’ in Andhra Pradesh. He said constitutional bodies must intervene to safeguard the rights of Dalits and ensure justice.
