With the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy only days away, South Korea on Thursday vowed to make its new winter sports history next month.

The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC) held the launch ceremony for the national delegation to the upcoming Winter Olympics, to be held in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo in northern Italy from Feb. 6 to 22.

As of Wednesday, 71 athletes had qualified for the Olympics across six sports, though the number could change in the coming days. They will be joined by 59 officials, with Korea Skating Union President Lee Soo-kyung serving as chef de mission.

The KSOC had announced earlier this month it is targeting at least three gold medals in Italy, one more than the country's tally from the 2022 Beijing Winter Games.
